Emergency veterinary care

The emergency service at OVUD is responsible for providing emergency and critical care. It is available for both pet owners and referral veterinarians, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There are two main facilities used for emergency care: the main hospital complex, which is accessible during daylight hours (Mon-Fri 8.00-18.00), and the adjacent building for Evening and Weekend Emergency Care, which is accessible every day between 18.00 and 8.00 and during weekends.
For the equine emergency care, please see the equine operative unit.

The Emergency Service is available to animals in an emergency, or without prior appointment. Every day and night, veterinarians responsible for patient profiling (triage), specialised veterinarians and trainees take care of animals and their owners.
Following an initial examination and after stabilising the animal’s conditions, the veterinarian on duty will assess the medical treatment and hospitalization of patients, where long-term care is needed. Veterinarians may prescribe the following examinations: haematological and biochemical tests, digital radiography, focused assessment with sonography in trauma (FAST) and blood transfusions.

Before travelling to the hospital, please call one of the following numbers:

  • +39 049 827 2608 during clinic hours (8.30-18.00);
  • +39 049 827 2959 during evening/night (18.00-8.30) or public holidays.

This ensures staff on duty are able to provide the best possible care to your pet.
