Diagnostic laboratory
The Diagnostic laboratory performs tests that allow to make a diagnosis. The service also provides support external veterinary professionals who are unable to perform specific exams at their own facility.
Analysis on companion, conventional, unconventional and farm animals and equines that have been admitted to the VTH or patients that are in critical care are carried out by the laboratory staff.
Services provided include haematology, clinical biochemistry and coagulation and immunological tests for diagnostic purposes.
The following tests are offered:
- complete blood count and interpretation of a blood smear;
- clinical biochemistry profiles;
- electrophoresis of whey proteins;
- blood gas analysis and electrolyte testing;
- hormonal profiles;
- haemostasis evaluation;
- complete urine analysis;
- analysis of effusions.

Opening hours
The service is available Monday through Friday, 8.30 a.m. - 06.00 p.m. at VTH.
All VTH activities are particularly relevant for veterinary teaching. In this regard, it shall be noted that fourth- and fifth-year students of the single cycle degree course in veterinary medicine may be present as teachers and other veterinarians perform clinical activities.
