Orthopaedics and traumatology
The Orthopaedics and traumatology unit is responsible for the clinical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of orthopaedic conditions. Services are available with a prior appointment or via the VTH (traumatised animals). Orthopaedics and traumatology diagnostic activities include orthopaedic examinations to gather specialist information. Such examinations may be either requested by the pet owner or a veterinarian for a second opinion.
After a first examination and a basic clinical evaluation are performed, the veterinarian will recommend a number of diagnostic and therapeutic treatments to cure the diseases of your animal. In particular, VTH offers various reconstructive surgical procedures to treat tendon and ligament injuries, including fractures of the appendicular skeleton, in addition to performing diagnostic and therapeutic arthroscopies.
The unit's staff is composed as follows:
- Prof. Maurizio Isola (Head of Unit)
- Dr. Parastoo Memarian
Setting up an appointment
Unless an animal is admitted via the VTH, it is necessary to set up an appointment by calling the hospital's reception desk at +39 049 827 2608. The receptionist will get you in contact with the veterinarian responsible for the service. You may also book an appointment by calling +39 049 827 2951.
Opening hours
Orthopaedics and traumatology services are available Monday through Friday, 8.30 a.m. - 6.00 p.m.
All VTH activities are particularly relevant for veterinary teaching. In this regard, it shall be noted that fourth- and fifth-year students of the single cycle degree course in veterinary medicine may be present as teachers and other veterinarians perform clinical activities.
