Soft Tissue Surgery
The Soft Tissue Surgery unit is responsible for general and specialist surgical procedures in companion animals. The service is available for second opinion consultations or specialist examinations upon request from the pet owner or a referring veterinarian.
Soft Tissue Surgery services include:
- general surgery
- oesophageal surgery
- urinary tract surgery
- kidney, spleen and biliary tract surgery
- head and neck surgery (ear, salivary gland, thyroid, parathyroids)
- thoracic surgery
- cancer surgery
- plastic and reconstructive surgery
The VTH is equipped with three operating theaters and one room for ICU and monitoring of postoperative patients. If a patient that has undergone surgery needs to be admitted, the on-call staff responsible for the operating unit will take care of hospitalisation procedures; alternatively, the patient may be treated as an outpatient.

The surgical services are available prior appointment or after the pet's conditions have been stabilised.

Opening hours
Surgical services are available Monday through Friday, 8.30 a.m. - 6.00 p.m.
All VTH activities are particularly relevant for veterinary teaching. In this regard, it shall be noted that fourth- and fifth-year students of the single cycle degree course in veterinary medicine may be present as teachers and other veterinarians perform clinical activities.
